Default Nice find at a thrift store

A Compaq Presario computer for $5.

Old yeah but the Dual Layer DVD burner and card readers are what got my attention.

As you can see this thing is dusty as hell. It probably still work, who knows.

Specs are: AMD64 3700+ CPU, 250 G HD, 2x512 MB Memory, Dual Layer DVD Writer and integrated crap.

Thank you for the offer, but when I end my posts with /s, it denotes that any preceding statements were meant to be taken as sarcasm. Perhaps I should start using the more clear </sarcasm>, or even an irony punctuation (⸮).

This means sarcasm too ->

Anyway I don't care about the key. You wanna use it, use it.

Fired up the box, runs and everything but hard drive shot. That's about it.

Who needs an actual serial number nowadays?

Nice find, though. It would make a decent home server rather easily. Do you have any DDR to pop into it (I assume it is a s754 or s939)?

It's an MSI s939 and DDR.

It'll make a great Ubuntu box but I need a hard drive.

No, I'm not parting out my i3 box.

Ok, the hard drive is a no go no matter what so I dug around in my computer junk box and pulled out an 80 gig IDE drive. Turned out that the DVD drive is an IDE so I was able to couple them as master/slave.

And voila! I got Kubuntu!

Bargain. I guess you probably know this, but just make sure the HDD is master and the DVD drive is slave as you can get performance issues the other way round
