Carrying on my graphic type of thread of the evening,

check out this:

Found it from Gametrailers.com:

A new form of graphic technology that could replace polygons forever, and, it doesn't even need a dedicated video card to run... yet, the amount of detail surpasses anything a game of late could ever produce, all using point cloud data.

Read, and check out those videos...
I'm in shock at the moment, haha

Animation I would have to see, but it should be a lot easier than ray tracing, computational wise; The way they are performing it. I haven't been impressed with ray tracing technology at all.

Point cloud data can be made from existing polygon meshes, but instead of all the work done in bump mapping/normal mapping, it seems these could be replaced with actual surface detail.
It can also be scanned in from real objects.

But yeah, they would have to come up with some form of animation system that could make the point clouds work convincingly... I would surely think that would be a lot of work.

It says that this could even run on an I-phone, the Nintendo Wii, etc, since it only uses the points it needs for the resolution intended, by using an advanced search function.
Though, I'd still think that there would be limitations when it comes to space on discs, with large models like those.
