Yup animated gifs. First save a picture as a .gif file. Then get an animated gif editor. I use Microsoft Gif Editor. It's super easy. Then insert the various images and the program will create one "picture" .gif file. Save it and load it in the User CP section.

Remeber to watch the size as they can only be 100 x 100 pixels.

There are also online tools that will let you make simple ones if you don't want to download or install anything.

Here's one. http://www.gickr.com

I use Photoshop and do them myself manually.

Well how many times has your mother told you to clean your room yet you have yet to do it.

Yes they are called .gif files.
A very simple program is gif animator. (Link)
Click on the "exe" download only and you won't have to install anything.

Yes, I use GIMP, but I'm giving him a simple approach.

Here's another. http://www.picasion.com

GIMP is a great alternative to photoshop.

Its not relly an alternative IMO, as I have linux, and there is no chance in hell of photoshop running worth a damn on my netbook. I have it (correction: had it) on my iBook G4, but my brother destroyed that computer.

Just my opinion on these things.
