umm...don't think you really understand how they both transmit data. its relatively the same thing, just different frequecies. its not a difference between sound and waves.

Yeah, the sound of your voice gets converted into a stream of data that gets decoded and turned back into sound once the data, sent thru the phone's signal, is received by the phone on the other end, regardless of cell, corded or cordless status.
Now, if your locking device used an actual sound frequency, than it may work.
