They could be 3rd party PS controllers.

If it's specifically Games for Windows then it will. If it was an older game for say Windows XP it's a hit or miss. Some will be detected by the Games Explorer and some won't.

It doesn't surprise me that Microsoft managed to sneak something like this in there. I guess they were targeting the same crowd that was vulnerable enough to fall for Windows Mojave

I didn't think M$ wouldn't include all of the games in all versions of Windows, with the exception of Business. All others do, except Business.

So they used what are apparently playstation controllers in an ad to help get a point across. BFD.

I'd like to know where the ad came from and how it was originally presented.
