One # is 15 more then another. The sum of twice the larger and 3 times the smaller is 182. Find the numbers.

so far i got
y + 15 = x
x + 3y = 182

Now what?

y + 15 = x
2x + 3y = 182

3y = 182 - 2x
(y = x - 15)*3
3y = 3x - 45

3x - 45 = 182 - 2x
+2x +45 = +45 +2x
--------------------
5x = 227
x = 45.4

y + 15 = 45.4

y= 30.4
x=45.4

Yea I am good at math. At first I thought I had it but I didn't. Oh well I got my own homework to do:rolleyes:

The answer is in my problem. You need to set it up so both are: 3y = X

then those two Xs equal each other, then you can solve for x in there, and substitute x in for y.

Y + 15 = X
2X + 3Y = 182

2(Y+15) + 3Y = 182
2Y + 30 + 3Y = 182
5Y + 30 = 182
5Y = 152
Y = 30.4

Y + 15 = X
30.4 + 15 = X

X = 45.4
Y = 30.4

Plug it in..
2(45.4) + 3(30.4) = 182
