Help with camera for xmas

So for xmas I have decided I need a compact camera that I can take to partys, clubs, bars, etc.

I'm lost looking where to start. I know that I like taking photos in low light without a flash, so something that has image stabilization is a must have. Also it would be extremely useful to shoot at 1600+ ISO with half decent quality photos.

Money isn't a huge issue, as virtually all compacts are under 300$

The only advice I can give you, is not to be cheated into a high megapixel camera, that may not perform as well as a slightly lower megapixel, plus produce better images as a result.

yea the megapixels in a camera are just like ghz on cpu's

get a camera with a good lens, and something with a high optical zoom
