From what i read I personally believe, that he died/or killed himself whichever you prefer. Because he got into the role to much. Its not very rare. But the really good actors do it. He didnt act as joker he was joker...Perfect example would be Marlon Brando. I dont think he killed himself. But that man was the best "Godfather" I'd ever seen. In my own opinion.
