i like how you can open ms word docs with open office but not open OO with ms word. makes it very difficult for me when i dont have a printer

Do you mean you can't afford a printer?, you can get one from about $60 / 30, about the same cost of some console games you know.

Ableton Live 7 alone is 800$.
$800 isn't to bad for software. Here is retail for a few higher end products.

3dsMax9 $3,649
AutoCad2008 $3,849

Right theres almost $7,500 in 2 programs lol.

Lol, I have AutoCad2006, AutoCad2008, 3dsMax9, Revit Architecture, Autodesk Maya, Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Ableton Live 7, Ableton Live Studio... And those are only the A's.

I spend a lot of 'money' on software.

As for free programs, it doesn't get better than Open Office and Picasa2.
