Holography is a very complicated process that is very costly. I think you have picked a project that is not only out of your scope of knowledge but out of your budget range as well.
I would suggest building a droid that has 4 party laser projectors in its head and program them to produce a cyclorama (A 360 view) movie, while compensating for the motion of the droid. All this while the droid drives around the basketball court.
As the droid comes closer or farther away from the projection plane, that's the smoke the laser is projecting on, you would compensated by lowering the power of the laser while changing the angle of the laser's projection mirror. And let's assume the smoke is around the edge of the court. Be cautious that the beginning aim is well over the heads of the highest seats in the stadium. Don't want to blind the spectators.
