I think speed step is OK if you have good cooling.

You may as well turn it off. Its not a labtop and speed step is a power save feature. All it does is reduce the clock mutli when your not stressing the cpu. If you don't mind seeing your CPU running at 1.6Ghz until you play a game or stress it leave it on. BTW congrats enjoy the new CPU.

Oh I thought it was the other way around... Like it overclocks in a game instead of underclocking.

Yeah leave it off, unless you leave the comp on alot, then turn speedstep on. I would turn it on since my computer is always on (idles at night and while im at school) to save the lifespan of the CPU while idling.

Yeah there is no real point of having it on. If you have an aftermarket cooler, there is no point at all in having it on.

I'm using the stock and my temps after booting vista up are 22C.

Not bad. I turned it off also.

Umm better energy consumption, resulting in a lower power bill? Pretty damned good reason.

Hence why I said its useless in a desktop. For a labtop it adds a little battery life. I don't think its going to save much of anything on the electric bill. I'm sure you could figure it out but i'd say maybe a 1 or 2 bucks at most.
