I think that is a bit harsh. Are you saying that all the people who celebrate Christmas are practising Christians? I doubt it. For most people it is just an excuse to eat and drink and exchange presents, but I don't think you can blame Chrstians for that.

And you forgot lent

(e.g. pilgrimmages, or fasting etc).

christianity marks it's major religious events with over indulgence and eating.

going through the year, first we have easter.
easter actually starts sometime in february, where we eat shed loads of pancakes.
then comes easter, where we eat loads of easter chocolates, probably in egg or bunny shape.

next is advent, where we have calendars filled so that we get at least one piece of chocolate each day, then comes christmas, which is a festival that seems to involve eating and drikning as much as humanly possible. (and it was like that before christmas was ever conmercialised as well!!!

does anyone else think that christianity is a bit of a sell out to the masses type religion that has ammassed so many followers through being the easiest path?
Well, there are the fridays leading up to easter where you can't eat meat...which is lent.

just as a quick note, I didn't forget lent...

I selected to omit that one... notice how I didmark shrove tuesday (day before Ash wednesday), which is the start of lent...

the point is for people like myself,
I'm not religious, yet I'll be celebrating this one religious festival of indulgence, there isn't a hop in hell that I'll be fasting for ramadam though.

edit, and it's not meat that you ca't eat, it's pretty much anything, traditionally, christians shoud fast fo 40 days and 40 night before easter as jesus did...

the point of making pancakes is that it's supposed to use up all the milk eggs and flour in the house befoer lent starts.

I celebrate xmas and I am entirely not christian at all.

However I often refer to it as "present day" instead.

I was asked to make a debate about the Christmas season, not wanting it to be about plotical correctness or the differences between Muslims and Christians or anything serious I made it about Santa Clause, however decided to condemn him.

I should like to add; pathetic from the start, probably pathetic all the way through, imagine Nick at parties over the Christmas period; Hi, can I join you, good, have you considered all the implications of Jesus's birth, well I see it like this, drones on for half an hour, listeners drift away, fixed polite smiles on their faces, he joins another another group, then another, then another, party over, everybody's gone home.
