I want to setup a file server on my network does anyone have any suggestions that will help me?

One point I would like to raise is make sure that it is not connected to the internet! Otherwise everyone will have access to your files!

Yeah I will make sure of that. What OS should I use? How much RAM?
Processer? Harddrive? Harddrive Type?
