My guess is it's an easter egg / publicity stunt (I find it difficult to believe such a thing crept in there by accident or through a bug, especially with that key sequence!) You see these sorts of things all the time and most of them are fake, so by creating one that actually works (at least it seems for most people) it looks like it's spreading.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of easter eggs - but red circles? Comeon, a cheap flight sim / pinball game such as we saw in office 97 would've been much better (and hardly difficult to code in this day and age!)

Perhaps I'm just sceptical, but to me it does just seem like a cheap tactic to draw more attention to Facebook (I doubt this is the only forum with a thread on it for example!) with barely any work on their part.
