Apple and Microsoft... both leaders and both American
Don't forget Intel, Nvidia, AMD/ATI and Cisco.
Other countries might have better internet available to more of its people but the US is huge when compared to most other countries.

I think in terms of 'better internet to more people'.. it's simply a case of logistics. I mean, the USA is vast, and quite sparsely populated in areas, miles between towns and such. Here in the UK it's easy, but imagine trying to run cables over the Sierra Nevada lol
