The dark days of Obama's rule begin

I supported McCain and I don't agree with most of Obama's policies but I will support him as President of the United States. I believe the times we face ahead of us are too dangerous for partisan bickering, and we're going to need to come together to fix this mess. Partisan bickering and finger pointing is what got us into this mess. I hope Obama delivers on his promises, specifically energy independence, getting the economy back on track and helping us earn respect around the world. It's too early to judge whether or not he will be a good president, only time will tell.

so what just because mccain sereved in the army he has all this experience to lead a country and be ultimate commander in cheif of the armed forces
I mean isnt it also the presidents job to appoint federal judges and in this respect isnt obamma more qualified what with his law degree from harvard and practice as a lawyer??

You know how Obama got into office? A major cheap shot. It involved digging up dirt. That is one of the reasons I don't hate him as much as some of my republican friends and family.

There was a campaign, and the woman running decided to go for something higher. Well, she asked Obama to step in, and he did. He was doing pretty good, but she wasn't at all. She dropped out of that race, and wanted to go back to the other one, and told Obama to step down, because you'll have your chance. He refused. She got a "petition" with so many signatures on it. Well, Obama didn't think that was right, so he had the signatures examined.... All of them. They found that many were forged, and then Obama did something similar to his opponents. He won by default.

Cheap shot? Yes. Good President material because nothing gets by him? Yes. That is among the few reasons he MAY be good for this country.

And for the record, Harvard is one of the most overrated schools IMHO. I'd take a degree from Berkeley over Harvard any day.

edit- Troy, I hope he doesn't keep his promises on energy. The US has a HUGE coal reserve. He wants to drive it into the ground. With the War, I hope its not a quick pull out because that will cause WWIII with Iran invading Iraq. They have a plan developed to get us out by 2011, and we need to help push that plan forward, and move dates up. I don't like his health care because I personally think it will make the system a monopoly, I think that he needs to be less lenient with Illegal immigrants, times have changed, and if he is allowed to change his views from what they would have been in the 1930's then we can change our views on immigrants without being called hypocrites. He does need to do something about this money deficit, without making taxes unfair. If he is really for the middle class he would abolish the IRS and make the tax system 100x easier- a bracket at 50K and then at each interval of 100K after that. A deductible for all your dependents, and with a $xxxx charitable donation you don't have to pay taxes. I think that a HUGE chunk needs to be taken out of the budget for military, and be put towards education, but then again we can lead a horse to water, but we can't make it drink. I've seen some intercity schools where a kid that liked to be 16 was going to elementary school. And you need to earn the wealth- not share it.

I'd also like to add there needs to be MAJOR government reform- no more spending government money on $1000 meals. It needs to come out of your pocket. Also, if you make more than 1M a year than that money over 1M needs to be taxed at about 80%.

As far as energy goes, I'll support anything that doesn't involve us sending money to other countries. Whether that be coal, oil, nuclear, wind, solar, or anything else, I say "all of the above". It's better than the poor excuse for energy policy we've had for the past few decades.
The war needs to be ended by 2011 at the latest, but we can't withdraw too soon. We've got to make sure everyone is on the same page when we withdraw. If we get out too soon, we'll probably be back again which would be very bad.
I don't want nationalized health care, but it should be made more available and affordable to everyone. I don't' think a monopoly is the answer to our healthcare problems. Part of the reason I don't think a nationalized system would work is because the insurance companies and drug companies have such strong lobbies, and besides what would happen to the people who have health insurance now? would they be forced to go with a govt. plan? I say leave the people's healthcare how it is, but for those who can't afford it or aren't able to get it, I support doing something for them.
The deficit is probably the biggest issue he'll have to deal with. I don't think huge tax hikes are the answer, but I also don't think huge tax cuts are the answer either. Raising taxes in a recession would be a disaster, and cutting them would potentially lead to reduced revenue. I've always supported a simpler tax code. Taxes are too complicated and should be simpler. Getting rid of the IRS is a good idea, but I just can't see a democratic congress going through with it. I think the best way to start reducing the deficit, is to cut spending.
Education really needs a change in this country. We've got to do something to fix the system and create a country of students that will be competitive in the workplace in the future.
And as for redistributing wealth, wealth is earned not given. People work hard for their money, and should not be punished for falling in a higher income bracket.

Agreed on Atomic's part. :D

there are some cases where taking in 1M a year isn't bad, but having movie starts rich as crap, rock starts rich as crap, and CEO's rich as crap isn't really the best when they aren't doing the work to be making more than 6 digits.

1) I think you misread it. I said if you have to have health care then health care is going to become a monopoly. Nationalizing health care isnt gonna work either because it'll be worse than Canada.... 3 year wait to see a doctor because Billy Joe Bob feels like the need to see a specialist every time they get a cold. Some people are not cut out to have health care, it sucks to be them, but they just have to roll with the punches. I'd love to be able to help everyone, but there are too many irresponsible people ruining it for the people that are truly in need, and that is the major problem.

2)Agreed about redistributing wealth. Can't be spreading it like I spread my PB and J. There is no rich without poor, white without black, night without day, or happiness without sadness. I'm sorry if you are poor, especially if you are truly poor and none of it is your fault, and I'd gladly take a small tax hike to help you IF I knew for a fact that that money would go to help people when it truly wasn't their fault. If your home was taken because you paid for porn instead of you house then I don't care about you, but if you lost your job because your boss is a moron, and you are having trouble making ends meet while you are looking for a new job then you truly deserve a bit of help.

Then you'd only get 200k. It should be a lot for the people like bill gates who make a ton, and even those who make $1000000 should be taxed more, but not that much.

Talk about stifling progress. With that kind of disincentive, nobody would want to work hard to improve themselves and larger businesses would just shut down.

I agree

I was making an example... a bit exaggerated, but it was an example. I've never had to pay income tax, so I don't know what the brackets are like now.
