Default Computer Books?

Hey everybody,

Everything that I learned about computers I learned by doing, what about everybody else? I was wondering, are there any computer repair, hardware books that are not too stuffy? I have been looking for one as a gift for a friend, but I cannot find anything that isn't too complicated, or too easy.
