Default Is CF becoming a social website?

Hello guys.

Is it? Don't get me wrong, I enjoy it really and love fooling around with you guys, talking about useless and fun stuff. It is just... is it?

I think that any forum is sort of social website. Individuals react with one another on a subject that they enjoy. That, to me, is a social interaction. We have an "off topic" area where we can chat about anything providing that it doesn't breach the forum's T&Cs. Some specialist forums that I am on (boating and vehicle forums) even have a "pub" section.

IMO if you don't have a social section then the forum gets stale. I mean if you just come to the forum to talk shop then it gets old.

I have an social section on mine called The Hanger. You don't have to know jack about flying MR's. But if you hang around long enough, you might learn something. Same here. If you are just a lounge lizard and hang around long enough, you'll learn something.

Hmm...

Quiet honestly, I don't come here for computers anymore. I come here to fool around and have meaningless fun. Kinda like hanging out with crazy (in a good way) friends in completely free times. I think if CF becomes SF (Social Forums) it could gain more popularity and activity now that it has the members we all know of. That would at least have other social specific sections. Social forums can still have a computer section of course.

That's just how I feel. I'm not trying to imply anything.

Well tbh I wouldn't want to belong to a forum that doesn't joke and fool around. I help when I can, but yeah I love joking around just as much as the next guy.

In a forum, you have to have a sense of humor....Also in life too.

I think it's somewhat of a natural progression with sites springing up in the Stackoverflow format that are *very* question and answer based with no room for social discussion. That could be an advantage or disadvantage depending on your point of view, but is definitely something that the traditional forum format is better at.

Whenever I look on there for help, I find it like Reddit, very hard to follow.

The idea is that there isn't a thread to follow per-se, the model is that the "best" answer gets pushed to the top and that's all you really need to look at.

Granted, it often doesn't work like that, but for many quick & simple programming problems I find it much better than trawling through 10 pages of forum posts to see if anyone actually posted a reasonable answer!

Reddit's sort of a merger between both, and I too find that rather hard to follow at times!

I thought it was just a place for memes and puns.
