Camera mic/Boom Mic

I need to get a mic for my canon camera. And if possible make a boom for the mic too.
Any recomendations for a mic? Something around $50 if possible.

won't get anything good for 50 bucks.

boom pole...broom handle with microphone mount fixed to the end.

Shure SM-58

i made a boom mic using a shower rod, a cheapo mic that came with my headset, tape, and one of those sound softeners you see on real mis.

We need it for voice mainly. Like dialougue scenes in a movie.
Think a shotgun mic might be a better way to go to get overall good sound?

For connections, the camera has a hot shoe, but other then that I think thats all...

well then you can't have an sm-58. you are really limited in terms of mics if you ONLY have a hotshoe
