Default Big English Estates

do the old and powerful families still live in those huge and ancient mansions out in the english countryside?

I was watching a show about them and some were built way back in the 1500s and 1600s. Some had been on the same spot of land for about a thousand years.

I've also always wondered if there are still Dukes and Duchesses and Archdukes and stuff. For offense, but all those castles and royalty seems like a fairy tale.

Just thought it was interesting because we don't really have anything similar here in the States.

Some still do but some are now open Museums for people to Visit, I live near one and go regularly http://www.burton-agnes.co.uk/ it is truly beautiful, its gardens are wonderful in bloom, and there is lots of garden games to play for the kids, a nature walk as well , then you have the house exquisite place.
Here is another http://www.castlehoward.co.uk/metadot/index.pl
