There are 3-year contracts, but that's only if you want a decent phone (at the time) for a reeeeallly cheap price... It's a terribly bad idea, because you'll be stuck with a outdated phone later on, and there will be nothing you can do about it. As of May 26, 3-year contracts are illegal in the UK... 3-year contracts are still fairly common in Canada.

Never even heard of one in the US. And most contracts let you get a phone after 1 year if you renew.
