Default About Accessing the Computer Remotely

Hello I have a win 7 desktop that's always running to serve as my in-home file server. I was wondering what's the most convenient way to remotely access the desktop say from like a laptop at a coffee shop or just some where else like at my office.

That would be Remote Desktop, built-in on Windows.
Go to the System Properties by pressing WinKey+Pause then click Remote Settings. Select Allow Connections from any version and click apply.
Then try connecting from the other machine by entering your computer's name or IP into the Remote Desktop Connection window.
