Default 64Gb Flash memory chip !!

they're talking about a 64Gb (yes! not Mb!) flash memory chip which could be capable of holding the equivalent of 80 DVD's

were getting closer to those solid state hard disk they'd cost a bomb though.

They will cost a sh*tload at first, but soon they will get way cheaper. Remember the days of 128mb MP3 players costing 100 bucks?? Now you can get one of those for 10 bucks. Just 2 years ago a 1GB Memory stick pro for PSP cost 80 bucks, now it is 10 dollars. Go figure. 64gb, $20000. 3 yearrs after release it will be 500 bucks.

Hm... in about 5 years we will be running dual octa cores and 32gb ram. 4gb dual core graphics cards, quad SLI, 250gb flash drives for the OS and 4tb for the backups. 1500W PSUs, 32" LCDs.

hmm... you know they are talking in gigabits, right? 64 gigabits is only 8 gigabytes, but thats still a whole hell of a lot for a solid state chip that sixe

Combining 16 chips would allow 128GB devices, the company said, making Flash a rival to hard drives.
128 divided by 16 is 8.

but, hey, this is an EXCELLENT achievement in the technology world, imagine the products that can be made out of it... 500 gigabyte ipods, anyone? we will see those in about 5 years..

80 DVD's on 64GB isn't really possible. Most DVD's are hard to get on a regular DVD-R 4.7Gb and that sometimes involves reducing the quality to make it fit. Some Video's will fit easily but most with extras and other features won't come close without cutting out the extras and menu's. So 80/4.7 is only 17 movies. Unless you plan on converting files but then they won't play in a standard DVD player.

Anyways everything just keeps getting bigger and bigger over time. 10 years from now its un thinkable what the average sizes of these drives will be.
