My guess is so we can keep the forum's post count high. Either that or we're just pack rats

I don't see any notification of a soft-deleted post under that post there. It's only enabled for moderators I guess. I ran vBulletin for a while and whenever a post was soft-deleted, it would just say "This was post deleted by ____" or whatever in place of the post.
