Personally, I will allow an old thread to be bumped, as long as the user is the user who started a thread, and gives us an update of what's going on. If it's a totally different problem, then I will close it, and mention to open a new thread for that matter.
People who says to google the issue is pretty much not understanding what a FORUM is. we are here to help, not to point at Google all the times.
