When we have original suggestions then they are implemented. For example the rep system rather than talking about avatars that had been settled a long time ago

I agree with you, in that kind of signature would look messy, and untidy, but nate imo has taken it to the extreme, he is one person that has asked for sig like that, there have been many other comments on signatures, where they have been relatively sensible, and would not be a detriment to the appearance of the forum and you have chosen not respond to them.

I am assuming that this is because you feel that his example does portray untidiness, and what you are trying avoid, and yes in a way it does prove your point, that there would be some people who would abuse it. However it is the minority as opposed to the majority that would abuse it, and in my mind would no more difficult to moderate then the 5 line signature rule.

We have talked about custom avatars but there is no way for mods to approve them, its an admin only feature
Yeah, I guess the avatars is a tricky thing. Although I doubt anyone here would be stupid as to put porn for an avatar, I guess something like that happened before.

As for custom signatures, I think we should start loosening the rules a bit on the signatures. You can still have certain regulations, but at least let us have some flexibility as to customize it a bit. Maybe more lines and smaller font, so it won't look humongous. Allowing images like custom userbars or something would be cool. I'm sure the moderators can change any thing, so if someone puts porn or some offensive material, take it off.

Nate's suggestion was a bit over the top, but allowing more lines and decreasing the font can still make the place look nicer. Something like this:

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ @ 2.6Ghz (260x10 @ 1.425v) - ThermalRight SI-120 & Delta 120x38mm Tri-Blade High-Speed SHE Fan - ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 motherboard - 1GB (512MB x 2) Corsair Value Select DDR-400/PC-3200 Dual Channel RAM - HIS Radeon X1900 XT 512MB GDDR3 - Zalman VF-900Cu - Seagate Barracuda 120GB UltraIDE HDD - Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum
If you won't play Battlefield 2 until DICE releases better patches, put this in your signature.

Or allow like one userbar. Not a normal picture/ image, but something like this:

Something like that...

You can still have the forum look nice and still retain the professional look. Allow users to choose: Signature? Or image?

Dude, stop with the attitude. Now you're being an ass and you even have a rude statement in your signature. You're not gonna get anything done if you're just gonna bitch about it. Becides, if you hate this forum, then leave. We have no use for haters who instead of working together and thinking of compromises, decide to bash the forums and rant about it.

EDIT>>> It's called a "Social Lounge" for a reason. It's a place so we can talk about things OTHER than computers.

newsflash. drinking is SOCIAL, its teh SOCIAL lounge. if you dont like the few drinking threads we have, DONT READ THEM!!

as for the other parts of your post:

builds section - weve already got enough sections, and this fits nicley into the general computer software/hardware section..

custom avatars... aint gonna happen. no matter how many threads are made on it.

custom sigs... aint gonna happen, look tacky IMO, its much better with just text..

custom user titles.. personally, i dont think this would work.. the titles weve got at the moment are fine, mabye another one after guru, but its better to have it all uniform.. IMO.

these are my opinions on this..

Agree with lots of points..

1stly... avatars... unfortunatly it looks like it aint going to happen... regardless of whether they are approved by the mods or not... it's a mod only function, so it means David would be the only one allowed to upload avatars on members behlaf...
and whilst it is a reasonably quick task to change a users avatar, it won't be a quick task if there are a lot of requests.

2ndly, Builds section... as Mark said, it's alerady implemented, (more or less), in the general section...
but I also agree with the theme of what Nate is saying... it would be good if there were a place that we could put tuorials that members write...
however, the best idea that I have at the moment is a general thread in that section called tutorials.
the thread wuold be locked... and if you had a tutorial you could send that to a moderator.
frankly that the only way that I can think of for a usefull tutorials secion to be implemented. there are already a lot of tutorial threads. and they eventually get pushed out of the forum system further and further down the pages

3rdly... Custom sigs... I don't see the ponit of turning on bbcde for sigs... fair enough we could get more creative... but it cuold also lead to the privellage being taken too far...
as it stands we already have some members who don't keep to the fiev line rules... a lot of new members don't even know that it's there.
I do however agree with the ide of reducing the size and increasing the amount of lines, (but not increasing the amount of lines if the font size isn't reduced)...

taking marks sig as an example...
Code:
<!-- / message -->

		<!-- sig -->
			<div>

Intel Pentium M processer <br />
Wireless networking<br />
PC - 2.53GHz celeronD, 1GB ram
			</div>
		<!-- / sig -->
the template could be change to read something like this
Quote:
<!-- / message -->

<!-- sig -->
<div class="smallfont">

</div>
<!-- / sig -->
then the text would be small abnd grey just like the user titles. (it'd actually be less intrusive than it is now!). so the place would look even tidier...
and we could up the line amount to 7 or 8 lines because of the reduced size.

User titles...
I agree that these could use something of a kick in the backside... I think there are more active Gurus than anyother member...
I'm sure i've said before that when I first joined there was only one guru (LK). now we have hand fulls of them... it's be nice if there were some higher level. especially now that we have more than one user breaking 10,000 posts.

I also think that the suggestion of custom text is a good one... cause it would let us recognise our more helpfull members... but I know that it would be awkward to set up.

I agree with Alvino all the way. he knows what he's talking about. However no offence, but I dissagree with Mark.

All that would be nice...very nice. but theres not much we can do except beg and beg...

I mean...David, It's a forum. Not your house. You don't have anyone to impress with this forum. I'll admit...it does look tidy...but it would be great for this community to have a little...for lack of a better word...benefits?

All of us would love custom Avatars. Sure they can look professional if they're 64x64. If any porn or slang and swears is put up, then that user can be banned...It would nice to have custom avatars, even if it'll be strict with rules.

User titles would be great

As for the sigs, I'm not so sure about pictures in them...but what if they're just light pictures? Have them be a certain size/res. and it'll all look good. Very good. Give every user a space in their sig for a picture. All the same size, and it'll really look great.

Whoever agrees with me, let me know.

Yeah... thats a good idea, that way more information, less space.

I agree... higher ranks after guru would be great.

custom text...

I mean where it says guru under someone's name it might say
photoshop expert.
or graphics expert...

it would let people know the people who really know their stuff, but it would also be unweildy and very hard to implement... again I think it's only David who'd be able to change it as an admin only featuer... so there's not a lot of point getting hopes up...

the only way that we (as moderators) would be able to change this would be if david set up more security groups that could still post as normal and if moderators were abl to ban users nito that group, (which wouldn't actualy ban them from posting or viewnig on the forums... it'd just change the text under their name...
