and would it be better to do folding on my CPU or GPU?

As long as its free, i'll join in when i get home (umma poor college kid : / )

you get on the roster by yourself. You have to fight your way on it (i.e getting alot of points.)

You can put any username you want and the team number is 42655

I've just started folding. I've got the Multi-core version, and i'm running it on my 955 BE and a VPS, so it should be reasonably quick!

I dont think you have to have a team or identification, as long as your connected to the internet I think it will take care of it for you. You should be attempting to get a work packet at first, but after a minute or two it shouldn't say that.
