I'm making a separate thread to discuss the server situation.
I know alot of users had reported the site running slowly, unfortunately I must say I had dismissed these claims since the site always ran fine for me and a couple other people who had no problems (this might be down to the time I always visit etc) Anyway, I need your help to investigate this. I've setup IIS running along side apache, they both server exactly the same site (so any posts made on one will appear on the other) so we can test server configs. I've created a dummy zip file for you to download so you can let me know what transfer rates you get a different times of the day. Apache www.computerforums.org www.computerforums.org/test.zip IIS: www.computerforums.org:81 www.computerforums.org:81/test.zip I've logged a call with the server provider who have provided the following info: ALERT WARNING 7/22/2010 5:31:01 AM (1/3) PING WARNING - Packet loss = 66%, RTA = 0.65 ms ALERT OK 7/18/2010 10:09:41 PM (2/3) PING OK - Packet loss = 0%, RTA = 0.62 ms ALERT CRITICAL 7/18/2010 10:08:50 PM (1/3) CRITICAL - Plugin timed out after 10 seconds ALERT OK 7/17/2010 10:50:30 PM (2/3) PING OK - Packet loss = 0%, RTA = 0.68 ms ALERT WARNING 7/17/2010 10:49:40 PM (1/3) PING WARNING - Packet loss = 66%, RTA = 0.60 ms ALERT OK 7/17/2010 4:51:32 AM (2/3) PING OK - Packet loss = 0%, RTA = 5.20 ms ALERT CRITICAL 7/17/2010 4:50:42 AM (1/3) CRITICAL - Plugin timed out after 10 seconds ALERT OK 7/17/2010 4:45:32 AM (2/3) PING OK - Packet loss = 0%, RTA = 0.65 ms ALERT WARNING 7/17/2010 4:44:32 AM (1/3) PING WARNING - Packet loss = 66%, RTA = 0.68 ms ALERT OK 7/17/2010 4:34:32 AM (2/3) PING OK - Packet loss = 0%, RTA = 2.81 ms ALERT WARNING 7/17/2010 4:33:32 AM (1/3) PING WARNING - Packet loss = 66%, RTA = 0.76 ms ALERT OK 7/16/2010 11:49:31 PM (2/3) PING OK - Packet loss = 0%, RTA = 0.65 ms ALERT CRITICAL 7/16/2010 11:48:42 PM (1/3) CRITICAL - Plugin timed out after 10 seconds ALERT OK 7/16/2010 2:15:30 PM (2/3) PING OK - Packet loss = 0%, RTA = 0.66 ms ALERT WARNING 7/16/2010 2:14:30 PM (1/3) PING WARNING - Packet loss = 66%, RTA = 6.54 ms ALERT OK 7/16/2010 2:09:30 PM (2/3) PING OK - Packet loss = 0%, RTA = 0.59 ms ALERT CRITICAL 7/16/2010 2:08:41 PM (1/3) CRITICAL - Plugin timed out after 10 seconds ALERT OK 7/16/2010 5:40:28 AM (2/3) PING OK - Packet loss = 0%, RTA = 0.80 ms ALERT CRITICAL 7/16/2010 5:39:38 AM (1/3) CRITICAL - Plugin timed out after 10 seconds ALERT OK 7/16/2010 5:34:28 AM (2/3) PING OK - Packet loss = 0%, RTA = 0.67 ms ALERT WARNING 7/16/2010 5:33:29 AM (1/3) PING WARNING - Packet loss = 66%, RTA = 0.68 ms ALERT OK 7/13/2010 6:13:13 AM (2/3) PING OK - Packet loss = 0%, RTA = 0.56 ms ALERT WARNING 7/13/2010 6:12:13 AM (1/3) PING WARNING - Packet loss = 66%, RTA = 0.64 ms ALERT OK 7/13/2010 6:07:13 AM (2/3) PING OK - Packet loss = 0%, RTA = 0.55 ms ALERT WARNING 7/13/2010 6:06:13 AM (1/3) PING WARNING - Packet loss = 66%, RTA = 0.54 ms ALERT OK 7/5/2010 9:59:39 PM (2/3) PING OK - Packet loss = 0%, RTA = 0.60 ms ALERT CRITICAL 7/5/2010 9:58:49 PM (1/3) CRITICAL - Plugin timed out after 10 seconds This looks very much like a hardware issue if it is not responding to pings like this so they are going to look into this issue. I'll keep you updated.

I had a 243kbps on the Apache with a 20 sec page load time. On the IIS i had a 333 kbps download with a .1 sec page load time altough I couldnt login on the IIS. My connection caps at 350 kbps, but the IIS runs smooth. This was tested at 12:53 AM Eastern Daylight Time (US).

I agree with you assessment on a hardware issue David. It's taking me roughly 30 seconds to even bring a page up while I'm getting a 65ms ping to the server. Download on IIS hit 650kB/s with Apache failing to load.
--- node1.computerforums.org ping statistics --- 50 packets transmitted, 50 packets received, 0.0% packet loss round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 57.694/65.544/97.022/9.662 ms |
