Avatars getting out of control

David, you don't have control over your forum anymore. You're a great guy, but you simply don't. The avatars are a prime example at how things can be run without any instruction or regard to forum rules. There needs to be clear instruction at what is and isn't allowed.

Well thats the problem, the rules were not clear - there was a grey area where mods could have any size avatar so I started this thread to consult the members regarding large / annoying custom avatars.

The outcome was that the majority are ok with slightly larger ones (100x100) and so some new rules need to be written not just for the members but for the mods also.

You said that I'm not in control anymore, well I like to find out what the community thinks (I personally don't mind 100x100) but if they say 500x500 then thats not going to happen. At the end of the day there is not point in a forum if the members are not happy or cannot put their point accross but that does not mean I'm going to implement every whim from every member - far from it - as you can see there are alot of impractical suggestions that have been put forward in the past that I have disagreed with

I don't think it is fair to say he isn't in control.
From what it looks like he is in complete control, he seen an issue and addressed it very nicely in my opinion.
Now everyone has a better option for avatars, mods are now restricted to what they can put up. It's mainly a win/win situation for everyone.
Protecting and advancing the members/users.

That's the thing. There were clear instructions in regards to the avatars. Look at the screenshots posted. There were limits, yet some felt the need to circumnavigate around them to get their desired preferences.

Well that is because of the the given powers... Aka Mods.

EDIT: which now that I think about it.. Really should be regulated. I mean maybe give them a special icon below there avatar "MOD" or something.. But unlimited avatar limits?

But then David would have to give himself an icon that says "Bada** Forum Admin" :p

Agreed though. It would be kind of nice though to have different "specialties" listed. I've seen that on other forums and it was really helpful when you are looking for advice and such. For instance, if you are good with networking you can have a line that says "Network Specialist" or something like that. Or "Linux Guru", etc. etc. I think that would add to the site, not clutter it.

I agree, I used to moderate a forum a while back and we had little logos for special people.
(no not tards... )

LMAO. It's good you clarified that. Someone was bound to jump all over that one :D

One thing to add to that though; I'm not sure if you need an updated vBulletin for that or not...if you do, David would have to pay for that and that would be up to him. Would be nice to polish off the dust on here though.

And before someone jumps all over that^^...I'm not talking about things flashing all over the website. I'm just saying, the newer vBulletins are crisper and cleaner..that's all I meant by that, so don't go over-exaggerating or taking anything I've said out of context (which tends to happen when someone is bit**y enough to want to spend the time to point out any and all faults of any member here).

lol.. my specialities are fishing, dogs and lizards... dont have time with work/college to mess around with computers any more...

what speciality should i get??

i dont think we need little logos, we already have the text which says moderator, and the names bolded, so if someone cant figure it out they need help.. or to go to specsavers..

also, the guidelines for avatars are clearly laid out, why people feel the need to use mod priviliges which are there to address members which get out of line to get themselves a bigger picture is beyond me.. but hey, at least thelis's one has gone now (til he comes back to the forum a week later after leaving for good.. again.. anyway)
