Can someone give me a nice definition of what exactly Telnet is. i will be using i in my college course in a couple weeks...but i'd like to have an idea of what it is before i start using it.

Meh... It's a very insecure way of issuing commands to a remote (or local... if you fealt like it) computer.
It's kinnda like SSH for windows
