Re: Is there a way to require a password to use my laptop with Windows 2000?

Yeah, I have software installed but I don't think any of it would affect my user logins and such.

Re: Is there a way to require a password to use my laptop with Windows 2000?

I tried that but when I tested it by shutting my laptop down and restarting it, it didn't ask for a password. Nothing changed. I think it might have something to do with me buying my laptop used. The...

Is there a way to require a password to use my laptop with Windows 2000?

Other people around my house won't stop using my laptop when I'm gone so I'm looking to see if it's possible for it to require a password to start it. Is there any way? If so, will it be easy to...

Re: I'm looking for a wireless card to go with a Linksys WRT54G.

I bought the Linksys USB adapter. It wasn't cheaper than the PCMCIA card but since it works as good as the card and it can be used on laptops or PCs it was the best option.

Thanks for all the...

Re: I'm looking for a wireless card to go with a Linksys WRT54G.

OK, so this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16833124126) is what I'm looking for? If a USB adapter only says 2.0 will that work with 1.1?

Re: I'm looking for a wireless card to go with a Linksys WRT54G.

It's just hard for me to believe that a USB stick can pick up a signal better than a card that goes in the slot built for internet connection.

Are USB adapters easy to setup? Do they demand more...

Re: I'm looking for a wireless card to go with a Linksys WRT54G.

I'm having a really hard time deciding between a USB adapter and a PCMCIA card. USB adapters can be used on any computer, can be moved for better reception, and they're slightly cheaper. PCMCIA cards...

Re: I'm looking for a wireless card to go with a Linksys WRT54G.

So the PCMCIA card doesn't have an advantage over the USB adapters? Or is it just slight?

Re: I'm looking for a wireless card to go with a Linksys WRT54G.

Would that be able to pick up a signal from far away? I'm wary of D-Link because I bought a wireless router from them that annoyed me to no end.

Why are PCMCIA cards more expensive than that?

I'm looking for a wireless card to go with a Linksys WRT54G.

I have a Linksys WRT54G and laptop, but no wireless card. This (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16833124110) would probably be the safest bet for compability or whatever, but is...

Re: I'm having trouble using internet through laptop

I'll try that.

I have a Linksys WRT54G router but I need to fix the PC before I can install it.

EDIT: That seemed to do the trick. I had tried waiting after unplugging the CAT5 from the PC but...

Re: My computer went crazy and now my computer is messed up.

I don't know, my family bought it used at a computer shop for like $100. It's Windows 98SE, 128MB RAM, like a 9GB HDD.

Re: My computer went crazy and now my computer is messed up.

How do I find out what video card model I have and where do I adjust the screen resolution? I'm afraid I'll just make things worse.

Re: My computer went crazy and now my computer is messed up.

I got up to system tools but I can't find system restore. I have Windows 98SE if that changes anything, which it probably does.

My little sister did something while she was on the computer and now the desktop icons, the font, and windows are all big. Also, the color is screwed up, when I look at a picture I can barely tell...

Re: Can I install a wireless router without the installation wizard?

Thanks for the help, I'll try that if it acts up later.

I finally got everything to work last night. Thanks for all your help!

Re: Can I install a wireless router without the installation wizard?

That's what I did. I got it to connect once, but I couldn't open the page that explains it, so I had to try again. I could never get it to work again, so I gave up and haven't tried since. I might...

Re: Can I install a wireless router without the installation wizard?

Thanks, I'll follow that. But I can't get my computer to connect to 192.168.0.1 after I connect my modem to the router and the router to my computer, my computer won't connect to anything for that...

The page won't load for me. I can't tell if it's just temporarily down or I'm doing something wrong.

Re: How much would this computer cost?

More than 100 MB per second? So if I was downloading say a 70MB CD it would download in under a second? How much do you have to pay for a connection like that, your soul?

Re: How much would this computer cost?

Thanks for the help everyone! I forgot to mention I'll also want a DVD/CD burner, but I think some of you included it anyway.

Say I was to put this into a laptop, would the price skyrocket? I...
