I, as a Microsoft lover and hopefully future Software Developer have to believe that both of these things can be met. Security and Functionality - XP started Functionality and we will see whether Longhorn finishes it and starts or completes Security. Only less than 2 more Years!

Ziycon - an OS built around security. Sounds like WinNT to me. Especially the early versions, remember how hard it was to do anything with installing software and hardware. Thankfully the majority of those bugs got worked out.
As per OS design if you grab and read some systems programming books you can get a pretty good feel for the way an OS is built and the resulting heirarchy away from the kernel. And of course if you want to dive into an OS first hand you can always download the source for linux.

Yeah - got a point about Windows NT.
What I'd like is to see MSN Explorer 10 packaged with Windows in Longhorn! That would be very nice.
