Default need help with 'C'

i am very n00b when it comes to programming and was wondering if any of you would be able to help me with 'C'.
i am just setting up my computer with dev-c++ for a compiler and am working on creating a batch file program (which i cannot seem to do). i have "c for dummies" (lol) and it is giving me some steps to follow. the trouble is i am following them and i am still unable to get my gcc.bat file to work.

if someone can help me i would greatly appreciate it. i would like to start learning how to use 'C' but i cannot if i am unable to get my comp set up for it.

oh... i am running windows xp for it

umm, why not just code inside the program, and use the program to compile it? there's a button on there that's compile, compile and run and a few others...
Windows: A thirty-two bit extension and GUI shell to a sixteen bit patch to an eight bit operating system originally coded for a four bit microprocessor and sold by a two-bit company that can't stand one bit of competition.
