Default Lost movies - please help

Hi, My pc recently starting restarting and running badly so i did a quick format using the disk that came with it. It saves all the files in a folder called my old disk structure. Every thing was fine, i saved my short movies of my daughter etc on the desk top. I installed the windows updates and restarted my pc as it asked, the, they had vanished! Iv searched high and low and can only find shortcuts to them in a windows explorer folder in recovery in spybot search and destroy. I have windows xp. Any help would be really appreciated.

Dean

...And that's why you should make regular backups of important data.

Well, I was trying to help, it wasn't pointless.

Usually you need to spend at least $40 for a professional to get the data back for you, after a reformat.

Try using system restore to remove the updates, if you can't, manually remove each with Add/Remove programs.

If it works, remember to thank me or I will curse you. I am fed up of helping and not getting thanks.

Also, you posted it in the incorrct forum in the first place, something that is generally frowned upon here.
