New Gaming Desktop.

Hey all.

I've been gaming on laptops for years, and I'm finally just sick of them. So I ave $2,000 (NZ) to spend on a new desktop. I came up with this...

Pentium Dual Core E5300 2.6GHz
Gigabyte G-Power Lite Cooler
Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L
8GB A-Data 800MHz DDR-2 Ram (4x 2GB - For Dual Channel)
500GB Western Digital SATA-2 7200rpm
Leadtek/PNY nVidia Quadro FX570 256MB DDR2
Dual Silverstone 120mm Blue LED Cooling Fan
22in LG W2243T 1080p Widescreen LCD

And i'm not to flash with computers, and the speed it'll run, but basically I'm wanting this computer to last a few years, and play most of the big games, and ones to come out (Thinking of CoD6 and Diablo 3) :)

So any advice on what to change or should that be OK?

Thanks in advance

That would make a horrible gaming desktop. 4GB of RAM is more than enough. You chose a workstation card, not a GPU. Completely different things. Find a GPU. The cooler you chose lacks, just stick with stock and the fans won't be necessary. They should come with your case.

I don't know the currency rate for USD and NZD, but if it's close to USD then $2,000 is a lot to work with. I'd go for at least a GeForce 275 GPU and a Core 2 Quad. I would get an after market heatsink/fan for the CPU. The one that came with my Q6600 was horrendous!

he has about $1350 USD to work with to give other people a better picture.

and yes DO NOT get that Leadtek/PNY nVidia Quadro FX570 256MB DDR2. get a GPU you will be fine with any nvidia newer ones, 260, 275, 285, etc..

8GB RAM is good but you don't need it, instead drop it to 4gb ram and use the other money to invest in a better GPU (video card) and a triple or quad core cpu.

With $1350 you should definitely get an intel i7 920+....

The E5300 is definitely not close to being a good processor for gaming.. You will have to get a quad core...either an intel i7, or intel Q9xxx, or an AMD Phenom II 9xx

Video card get a Geforce GTX 2xx.

Ram get a DDR3 ..ddr2 are running old now, but check with your motherboard first. If you are getting an i7, get either 6gb or 12gb of ddr3.

Hope this helps...

Thanks for all the replies.

If this helps anyone, the site I'm using is

I'll play around with your guys comments see what I can come up with.

Edit: Just been looking through he Video Card options.. And they're all crap... Basically.

Exactly, how hard would it be to order the computer with no graphic card, and order a good on from, NewEgg, and place it in myself?

If you've never installed a gfx card before it is quite simple. It only becomes awkward when dealing with a small case. Just need to make sure it is firmly placed and has the correct cables connected to it from the PSU.

I'm not the best at making builds but heres what I have come up with. You can change processor and motherboard and prob get a better gpu but here.

Theres about $100 in mail in rebates :/ .
Best I can do though.

Thank you Computernewb, you forgot a Hardrive though :p ( I think )

Also, if what Solar says is true, I will most likely order the computer without a graphics card.

Or might just order all from NewEgg, just then i'll have to put everything together myself :(

Putting it together isn't that bad and it is worth it for the performance you get to buy all of your parts and put them in.
