I had a tight budget ($1500AUD) and went a little over, but heres what i got, with mostly gaming in mind.
Intel E8400 3Ghz Core 2 Duo 4GBDDR2 Memory 2xSeagate SATA 500GB HDD's 22x DVD re-writer 650watt power supply gaming PC tower (improved airflow) 23" Samsung Screen Logitech 5.1 surround. Diablo 3 and GTA 4 are the games i had in mind when buying this. Reckon it'll go alright? |

You forgot to put the Graphics card spec of your PC.
Since your Processor, RAM and HDD (kinda) is decent, the only thing that matters, and matters the most is the GPU. If your GPU is HD 4800+ or up, and GTX 260 and up I'd say you'll be alright. |

You are all set for high-performance gaming for at least 2 years, and regular gaming (mid-to-low end spec games) for a really long time. Congratz. |

Sounds a little over the top AND overkill, but seems a little over priced unless you have a $150 graphics card...
