Graphics slowing down my computer?

Ok so im new to the forum not really sure if this is the right place to put this but here we go. Im not really like the know it all when it comes to the hardware and software of the computer so I'm not really sure if I'm right on this so I want ya"lls opinion. I ran a check on my computer to see what might cause it to be going as slow as a snail and it said the graphics were so I fixed it to where they wouldnt slow it down and they look terrible! I was wondering if I got a better graphics card if it might help? And I'm not sure what kind of graphics card i have...the computer was given to me and didnt have the info.

This is deffinitly the wrong place to put this, hardware perhaps?

Anyway...when and how your computer slow?

Switching between applications, waiting for windows to load?
Or are you talking about games and such?
