If you want a free one SPYBOT or ADWARE are most common, Ive used both and find them fine. heres the link so you can take a look http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_aware_free.php

Microsoft provides free spyware protection; Windows Defender, I have yet to use it (it was something I came across while browsing -- it may already be installed on your machine, I haven't checked yet), the reviews are satisfactory, but they do also recommend a second anti-virus application -- I've used Spybot Search and Destroy in the past.

I wouldn't recommend Windows Defender IMO... I'd use Ad-Aware, Spybot... Maybe that Webroot software?

Webroot spy-sweeper is great...

you get active shields for cookies and spyware, plus background/full system scanning
