Is there a way!?!

I'm not sure but I may be up the creek with no overclocking paddle:

PC: HP Elite 190T

Hardware info can be found here: http://villagephotos.com/utils/image.aspx?u=2004-5\721024\Speccy.jpg

I'm kinda starting to think that the BIOS that came on the MB (AMI v5.28) is going to be in the way of my OC-ing dreams...lol

When I go into the BIOS, I don't see anything that would be useful for overclocking.

If this is the case, what are my options? I've heard software overclocking isn't really all that great. I obviously don't want to swap out mobo. Is there a way to flash a new BIOS?

Sorry to say, you're pretty much stuck with what you have. There are no available "overclocking" BIOS for it and as you have heard, software OC'ing isn't the way to go either.

With that CPU, there is hardly any need to OC! However, I understand the enthusiasm here. I looks to me like you won't be able to OC this machine. Generally, pre-built manufacturers like Hewlett-Packard, Dell, Gateway, etc. install a locked BIOS on their motherboards. This disables any features that allow customization on the QPI and VCore. If that's the case, your options are limited to software overclocking, which, like you said, isn't a great deal. I don't know if there is a flash ver. that would enable you to OC. We would have to search Google for that. In any case, flashing the BIOS can be very dangerous; I assume you know of consequences if you know what flashing the BIOS does.

As I thought. Thanks for the replies though!

For clarifications, this actually isn't my PC...unfortunately. As Joga said, this thing is stupid sick and really doesn't NEED overclocked...I'm just a big tinkerer and like to play with stuff. My buddy (who bought the 2200 dollar thing...) is too but isn't sure how to do stuff so they ask me and, when I ran into this BIOS issue, I was unsure what to do.

I'm actually on the PC right now and it's so awesome...this thing is just sooooooo fast. I've used a LOT of computers...I'm a Data Networks Specialist for the United States Marine Corps and people found out I can work on PCs so, on top of what I do at work, people in my unit give me theirs to work on all the time...there are 8-12 computers in my house at any given time and NOTHING even almost compares to this thing. This thing is a beast. 3.33ghz hex core i7-980x, 12gb ram, 1.5TB HDD, 1.8GB GPU...it's nuts. Every game we've thrown at it doesn't even make it blink...doesn't even miss a beat.

But still...being the tinkerers we are, we wanted to mess with the thing and we're pretty disappointed to find the BIOS on lock as it is. Oh well I guess cuz it's still a stupid awesome PC. I wanted to take it to 4.5ghz though...:-( lol

The Hex Core i7-980X is a very nice CPU. It's unfortunate that the motherboard won't let you flex it's muscles a bit.

But for what it's worth a new motherboard won't cost you the earth should you want to 'tinker'.

True true. Swapping mobo is an option. We might do so if we get bored enough.

But, in the mean time, I'm really enjoying this thing...lol...every time you click something, **poof**...it's there. Now that I have this puter that can do anything i want it to do, I can't think of anything to do with it! lol Figures, right?

I think I'm gunna crank up Reaper and see how many tracks and VSTi's it'll run before lagging...lol
