Hey guys
I friend of mine just gave me a pretty nice Dell motherboard. Ordered up some parts and I have myself a new rig ![]() Problem is, I installed SpeedFan and checked my temperatures. The CPU is running at 70 degrees! Thats not under load, its just sitting on the desktop with speedfan running, with the case open.I did a little tweaking around (reversed the fan on the heatsink to blow air DOWN) and it lowered my temps to 58 degrees. Still, that seems a little high....... What do you think I should aim for with an Intel Pentium 4, 2.80GHz? Windows XP Pro |

Your temps, with an OEM or "cheap" heatsink are spot on. The P4's run hot unless you throw a massive tower air cooler or go liquid on them.
I have P4's here at work that run up to 100*C just fine. Their TJunction isn't for a little more yet, so they're fine running that hot, even without having to throttle. I try to get them down again, but generally speaking, the P4 is hot headed. 80*C load temps aren't unheard of for P4s. |
