wireless networking

i have my laptop and pc, both them have wireless on them 802.11b/g
but when they are both turned on, they dont find each other at all, ive tried as much as i can (just of what i know).
ive created the network but they dont see each other.
i have changed settings to Adhoc, access points.. anyways would someone help me out.
if it comes to it i will buy a router.

i have my xbox 360, 2 pcs and the laptop currently wired lan into a hub right now, but one pc dosent have wireless is there anyway of sharing the internet connection between the wireless connection and the wired.

any help would be much appreciated.

much easyer way to do that. is a crossover cable. $4 and 10 seconds later.

Make sure each computer has it's own name.
Make sure each computer is apart of the same workgroup.
Once this is done, they should be able to see each other.
