Wireless Network same as LAN?

Is a wireless network (wireless adapters with a router) the same as a LAN?

A LAN is simply a local area network, which can be wireless, or wired, or both.

Local area network is a local computer network for communication between computers. Especially a network connecting computers and word processors and other electronic office equipment to create a communication system between offices.

Which can be wireless or wired.

obviously the medium through which the computers are connected is different, there are a few differences in configuring, however the prinicples of wired ethernet and wireless are the same

I think wireless is better if you have a laptop. I wouldn't recommend using wireless for Desktops.
