Default win98 xp crossover cable problems

I am connecting a win98 to an xp computers with a crossover cable.
I found a few sites to help get it working, but only half way. My XP finds and can read data on the 98, and can ping it. I cant ping on the 98.

Yeah, the firewall most of the time is the culprit when computers don't connect. See what happens if you disable the firewall on the XP side.

disable it by going to start-run-type services.msc
ICS/Firewall-stop/disable
