OK i have never had more than one computer in the house before but in a week my parts for my custom build computer will arrive. i want to use a wireless router to link the computers. now here is where i have no clue. will a wireless router enable me to share files between the computers and enable internet on my computer? my internet is cable if that matters at all.

I was thinking of this wireless router:http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=485092&Sku=D700-2144 P

You can set up a wireless network for shareing files
Get a lap top and wireless surf the net
Get a PSP and play online games wirless
Get a palm and surf the net or what ever wirlessly

Pretty much anything you did b4 with wires and internet is now just wirelessly.

Using a router is very convienent. :)

Think about all the things you can do on a wired network. Now, just remove the wires. All those things you can still do.

Personally I'm not a big fan of wireless except for laptops or individual devices. Wireless is not very secure unless you take the right steps to secure it, which still someone can sniff out your network with linux freeware like AirSnort. Not that it is common, but something to think about....http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,844020,00.asp

Ahhh, Dishdog...I'm on the same boat as you. I am also getting a wireless network setup. I'm getting the D-Link DI-524 wireless G router and should be here this upcoming Thursday. I've got a laptop now that is dying to be networked. Right now, I hate having to unplug the cable and plugging it in to my laptop, then rebooting it to detect it. I also plan on print sharing and simply being able to transfer files across my computers without using my thumbdrive or DVDs.

It should be good because you will be able to do all that with a wireless router. I also have cable internet so it should be very easy to setup. After it's setup, just go into Setup home network from the control panel or use software provided by the router.

The reason why I picked D-LInk is because it has a pretty big rebate on it and the reviews for that product is loaded with positive comments. It transfers rate up to 54Mbps which is ok for the price I'm paying for. I like the 100Mbps transfer rate because all my network adapters support those speeds or faster, but it's ok.
