Hi, I want to network my house, just checking to make sure i'm buying the right stuff.

I have 3-4 computers in my room most of the time, only 3 that ever really need to be networked. Also, 1 downstairs in a desk, 1 compy and a ps2 by my tv. 1 laptop too.

The ones upstairs are about 45 feet from the desk and 60ft from the tv/ps2(took a string and measured it out).

I need a switch and a couple 100 foot cables and 6 ft or less cables right? Plan on having switch upstairs.

Switch-30 bucks w/ rebate. Also should I invest 8 bucks for a 1 year warranty on the switch?http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833127082

100ft cable (1 plan on buying 3)-10 bucks a pop http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812105312

6 ft cable (plan on three) 3 bucks a pop http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812106327

Total comes to 92 bucks w/ shipping. Anybody wana share some promo codes :p ?

You will also need a router so all the systems can get an IP address without you manually having to do it (which is possible, but a pain).

When you get your gateway/router(s), you might as well get wireless ones as they will work in one room at least, then you don't have to run wires to the computer.

Okey doke. Also, should i wire though the walls or on them?

That is up to you. It is probably lots easier to go on them, but cleaner (and could be much more complicated in them.

Since you are buying a router, get a wireless one, and hook it up before you get your cables. You might be suprised if the signal reaches throught the walls/ceiling and save yourself some headache.

Ya for the most part. You should test out the wireless though with your laptop first before you put the money into the adapter.
