VMWare on Dell PowerEdge 2900 w/ SBS + Exchange?

I am getting ready to launch a bunch of VM's. Currently have six spread over two Vostro desktops, and we need more, so it's time to put them on a server.... But I am feeling reluctant (mostly due to lack of knowledge)...
Should I purchase a separate server to install VMWare on? Is that typical? Or should I use our PowerEdge?

Before deploying too many VMs I would make sure you have your redundancy well checked. With VMware I would have two hosts and a raid 50 array, 12-16 drives. Two switches, two UPSes...
I just saw you have a 2900 with SBS :P - What are the specs of it? And how many machines are you running concurrently?
