Default Setting up a gateway

I was wondering if anyone here can help with this..

I want to set up a gateway between my router and net connection for the purpose of logging traffic. Is there any way to do this?

I apologize for the noobish questions but I've never attempted this before.

Thanks.

what do you mean setup a gateway between your router and network? your router acts as a gateway and some are capable of logging traffic. What gateway are you trying to use? Also you don't need a "gateway" to log internet traffic.. use a sniffer program and a hub connected to your router.

Ok, maybe that's what I was looking for. I have ethereal but it only logs packets going out of my computer. I'm trying to log for the whole network.

Btw. The router I have is an mn-500 if that helps.
