Default Self contained hard disk web server?

Hi, I have seen before people who have external ethernet hard drives which they can connect to the internet and use as web servers without having a computer switched on - all contained within one unit.

Has anyone seen this before and/or would it be possible to make such a thing.

From what i know those are Network Attached Storage Devices, however didnt know you could run a website off of one. However i know some do have internal web pages so that could be what you saw. Not sure, but sounds interesting.
