Running USB 1.0

I have a Dell 4550 that worked great with my dell wireless 1180 usb Adapter but when I plug it into my Dell 8400, it works for about three minutes then overheats making it so that I cannot connect. Would it be because my Dell 8400 is usb 2.0 and my 4550 is 1.0 along with my adapter? Are you able to use usb 1.0 devices on usb 2.0 computers?

yes you can. you can even use 2.0 devices on 1.0 usb slots, you just wont get the maximum speed. it shouldnt over heat. does any other usb device have the same problem?
