i have windows 7 and a linksys WRT54GL v. 1.1 router. i want to install the firmware for the router on my computer but its having trouble connecting to the router even though im on the internet through the router. i want to reset my computers memory of all past networks because when i connect to the router it still says its old name i had given it instead of linksys like it should. i checked on the router settings and its completely reset and also wirelessly it shows up as linksys so i dont understand.

I'm sorry, I just don't understand this. How and why would you possibly install firmware for your router on your computer. The firmware for your router should only be used on your router. The default gateway of your computer is the local IP address of your router.

are you connected to the router using wireless or using a cable.

firmware updates are best done by cable.
